Gaius Julius Caeser was a famous Roman Genaral and dictator who played a very important role in the Republic of Rome. In 60 BC Caeser formaed an alliance with Pompey and Crassus, and with their support became consul the following year. After his year in office the Senate gave him command over Gaul (France), soon he conquered the rest of Gaul and became very popular in Rome. After the death of Caeser's daughter Julia who had married Pompey the link between the two men became considerably more hostile. The Senate in Rome who were afraid of Caeser, supported Pompey and ordered Caeser to come to Rome without his army. Caeser refused and marched into the capitol, forcing Pompey out. By 45 BC Caeser was the most powerful leader Rome had known. He was an effective and kind ruler but did not consult the Senate and in 44 BC in the Ides of March according to the Roman calendar.
